1970 Chevrolet Camaro RS with Supercharged LT4

While much of the talk around Chevrolet this year has been focused at the highly anticipated Chevrolet Camaro, the Chevrolet Corvette is making some big moves as well. The Corvette Z06’s LT4 engine, with 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque, is the most powerful production engine that General Motors has ever built.

Chevrolet Performance chose to offer the Corvette’s powerful heart as a crate engine for auto enthusiasts, and for this month’s SEMA show in Las Vegas they used it to build a concept car that made our heads explode a little bit. The LT4 engine was installed in the body of a classic 1970 Camaro. That’s right, a Corvette engine is powering a Camaro.

Bringing together a Camaro and a Corvette is like if Superman and Batman combined into one super hero. Classic car fans should be happy, because the design still preserves the classic Camaro’s aesthetic, and modern car enthusiasts will appreciate all of the new power under the car’s hood.

Besides the new crate engine, the Camaro also received a T-56 Super Magnum six-speed manual transmission. The chassis and suspension systems had to be upgraded to handle the new powertrain, and the exterior also received upgrades like LED headlights.
