Chevrolet Reportedly Discontinues the Chevrolet City Express
The smallest entry in Chevrolet’s commercial lineup is reportedly no more
Recent documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reveal that Chevrolet is manufacturing a commercial version of the Chevrolet Bolt EV with its back row of seats removed. Astute automotive enthusiasts will remember that Chevrolet already has a small, city-based commercial vehicle in its lineup: the Chevrolet City Express.
Or rather, Chevrolet “had” another city-based commercial model, as Chevrolet officials have confirmed that the Chevrolet City Express has been discontinued.
According to GM Authority, Chevy dealerships can no longer place orders for the City Express. It would appear that the 2018 model of the commercial van will be its final iteration.
The Chevrolet City Express was first introduced to Chevrolet’s lineup for the 2015 model year. At the time, it was set to be a direct competitor to the Ford Transit Connect and the Ram ProMaster City.

What might be surprising to learn is that Chevrolet didn’t really design the City Express at all. Instead, the model was sourced straight from Nissan, a variant of the Nissan NV200.
In fact, the City Express its nearly identical to its Nissan counterpart. The only part that GM provided for the model was the signature Chevy badges.
Unfortunately, the Chevrolet City Express was never able to match the sales of the Transit Connect or the ProMaster. This disappointing sales performance is likely the contributing factor to the model’s ultimate demise.
Businesses that need to haul cargo through the narrow streets of a busy city will soon be able to complete this task with the help of a modified Chevy Bolt. As for the Chevrolet City Express, it seems that this commercial model is currently experiencing its final days on dealership lots.
