Chevrolet Sales Dip in August; Cruze, Colorado See Big Gains
Chevrolet’s overall US sales were down 3.9% in August, totaling 175,965 units delivered. Retail sales totaled 142,656 units, down 2.7%.
Overall, sales of the Chevy Cruze increased 52.4% at 22,342 units. The Colorado was up 29.9% at 9,242 units, bringing year-to-date sales to 69,664 units. Corvette sales were up 12.4% at 3,064 units, Spark sales were up 6% at 2,938 units, Suburban sales were up 27.5% at 5,737 units, Trax sales were up 16.9% at 6,997 units, and Volt sales were up 50.8% at 2,081 units.
Retail-wise, the Colorado, Corvette, Cruze, Malibu, Silverado, Spark, Suburban, Tahoe, and Trax all gained market share in their respective segments. GM estimates that Chevy gained 0.4 percentage points in August, bringing its retail market share to 11% and maintaining its status as the industry’s fastest-growing full-line brand.
Sales of the Colorado were up 35%, Suburban was up 42%, Tahoe was up 29%, Trax was up 17%, Cruze was up 18%, Malibu was up 9%, Corvette was up 16%, and Volt was up 52%.
Last month also marked the Chevy Colorado and Crew Cab Silverado’s best August at retail ever; the best August at retail since 2007 for the HD Silverado; and best August at retail since 2008 for Corvette, Tahoe, and Suburban.
Through August, Chevy’s total sales in the United States are down 4.5% at 1,361,675 units. Retail sales-wise, Chevy is up 2.2% at 1,055,166 units, the brand’s best performance at retail through the first eight months of any year since 2007.
