Today Chevrolet released the first official teaser image of the upcoming next-generation 2016 Cruze—while also taking the opportunity to brag about the fact that the Cruze just surpassed 3.5 million global sales, to become the bowtie brand’s best-selling car around the world.

“When we introduced the Cruze it replaced 15 other compact vehicles around the globe,” said Alan Batey, president of General Motors North America and global Chevrolet brand chief. “By consolidating design, engineering and marketing efforts, we were able to produce an award-winning, value-driven sedan that won over customers around the world.”

Sold in 115 different countries, the Chevy Cruze’s top global markets include China, the US, Brazil, and Canada.

In its home country, Cruze sales totaled 273,060 last year, representing a 10% increase over 2013. Most importantly, to Chevrolet, is the fact that 35% of all Cruze buyers are new to the automaker.

“In every corner of the globe, Cruze has been successful at introducing new and younger customers to Chevrolet,” Batey said. “Compact car customers are looking for style, safety and connectivity at an affordable price and the Cruze delivers on all fronts.”

For the 2016 Chevy Cruze, GM is promising more features, new technologies, new powertrains, and newly available safety features. The next-gen Cruze will also be larger yet lighter than the current model.

Chevy says that the 2016 Cruze will also be one of the first Chevrolet vehicles to offer the automaker’s new Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

According to General Motors, the next-gen Cruze will hit showrooms in early 2016.
