Chevrolet to continue as Official Vehicle of Major League Baseball

Today Chevrolet announced that it has renewed its sponsorship deal with Major League Baseball. The three-year agreement will allow Chevy to continue until at least 2018 as the Official Vehicle of Major League Baseball, a title that the automaker has held since 2005.

The agreement guarantees that Chevrolet will also continue to present the Ted Williams All-Star Game Most Valuable Player Award and the World Series MVP trophy, meaning we can hold out hope for another appearance of the infamous “Chevy Guy” from 2014.

Under the new deal, Chevy also becomes the Official Automotive Sponsor of MLB and USA Baseball’s Play Ball initiative. Now in its second season, Play Ball is aimed at encouraging youth participation in baseball and softball activities.

“Chevrolet’s partnership with Major League Baseball is a natural fit and allows the brand and our dealers to connect with generations of Americans on a personal level through the support of hometown teams at both the professional and youth levels,” said Chevy marketing executive Paul Edwards.

Chevrolet has supported youth baseball for the last ten years with its grassroots, community outreach program, Chevy Youth Baseball. Leagues that participate in the program receive equipment, fundraising opportunities, and sponsorship checks from Chevrolet. Since 2006, Chevy Youth Baseball has provided over 90,000 equipment kits and renovated 9,400 parks, affecting over 5.2 million kids in the US.

“Providing young people with more access and opportunities to play baseball is an important priority for us,” said MLB executive Noah Garden. “Chevy’s commitment to youth baseball aligns perfectly with the goals of Play Ball. This renewal displays an ever-increasing commitment to our partnership and to youth baseball players all over the country.”
