Chevy Cruze Hatchback Diesel to Arrive for 2018 Model Year
The Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback has made headlines across the internet the past week as it strives to break 50 mpg by a equipping a brand new 1.6-liter CDTi four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine mated to either a six-speed manual transmission or a nine-speed automatic, beating the efficiency of many hybrid vehicles and becoming the most fuel-efficient non-hybrid on the road.
However, those who heard this news and thought, “I have to get one of those” will need to sit tight for a little bit, as Chevrolet has, in response to the widespread news coverage, told MLive that the Cruze diesel will arrive “in time for the 2018 model year.” That means the vehicle will most likely arrive sometime in the latter half of 2017.
If you want your sweet diesel power wrapped in something a little larger than a Cruze hatchback, though, the same 1.6-liter turbo-diesel vehicle which Chevy hopes will deliver such excellent efficiency for the Cruze will also be available as one of three powertrain options on the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox (which incidentally will be the first compact SUV to offer a turbo diesel). The larger vehicle lowers the efficiency somewhat, but it still delivers a very impressive 40 mpg on the highway.
Chevrolet still hasn’t announced pricing for the Cruze Hatchback diesel, and the EPA has not yet delivered a fuel efficiency estimate.
