Back in 2012, Chevrolet launched a project to deliver 1.5 million Chevy-branded One World Futbols to children around the globe in just three years. Now at the two year mark, Chevy is celebrating its 1 millionth One World Futbol donated.

The One World Futbols are nearly indestructible, meant to last through even the roughest of play. Chevy has been delivering these balls to children in poor circumstances, such as refugee camps, war-stricken zones, disaster areas, areas with mounting poverty, and more. The organizations through which Chevy has been making the donations aim to use sports and play to promote things like conflict resolution, health awareness, and gender equality.

The 1 millionth One World Futbol was one of fifty being delivered this past Saturday to the Mabu-a-tlou girls’ primary school, located in Hammanskraal, South Africa. The delivery was made during the unveiling of the all-new pitch at the school, which will be important for the girls’ soccer program there. Chevy execs were joined at the presentation by Gary Bailey, a Manchester United legend, as well as Tim Jahnigen and Lisa Tarver, the founders of the One World Futbol Project.

“For Chevrolet, it’s not just about what the One World Futbol is, but what the ball enables us to do,” commented Tim Mahoney, chief marketing officer, Global Chevrolet. “The donation of the 1 millionth ball is a tremendous milestone in our effort to help children everywhere realize that through play, all things are possible.”
