Chevrolet had a special surprise in store for attendees at last month’s Auto Shanghai 2017: the world debut of its new FNR-X all-purpose sports concept vehicle.

In case you are wondering: yes, FNR stands for “Find New Roads,” because the best way to stay on brand is to be on brand all of the time.

The Chevy FNR-X is a spiritual successor to the Chevrolet-FNR concept that premiered at the Auto Shanghai show two years prior. That vehicle was cultivated by General Motors’ Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center.

“The Chevrolet-FNR is one of Chevrolet’s most forward-thinking concept cars, truly exemplifying the brand’s passion for innovation and ingenuity,” said Alan Batey, General Motors executive vice president and president of GM North America and Global Chevrolet. “The FNR-X builds on the design and technology showcased on the original FNR concept and embodies the belief at Chevrolet’s core that anything is possible.”

In terms of propulsion, the Chevy FNR-X utilizes a plug-in hybrid electric powertrain that enables two distinct driving modes: V (for versatility) and S (for sport). Further modifying the driving experience is an active suspension that can adjust ground clearance at the driver’s behest, intelligent adaptive control systems, and active grille shutters. Front and rear spoilers, side skirts, and switchbade wheel blades are purpose built to both look dynamic and provide aerodynamism.

An all-terrain Advanced Driver Assist System acts as a sort of autonomous assistant, determining the best route for a trip based on road conditions and helping the vehicle adapt to circumstances accordingly.

Looks-wise, the Chevy FNR-X is striking: bold, strong lines, dynamic digital LED headlights and taillights, rear-hinged doors with remote open and close, and a clean and comforting interior give it the feel of signaling future directions for Chevy vehicles to come.
