Remember way, way back to the 2014 SEMA Show in Las Vegas? And remember how Chevy debuted an Impala Blackout Concept at the auto expo?

Well, today Chevrolet announced that in flagrant violation of Las Vegas city code (“What Happens Here Stays Here”), it has begun producing the car in earnest, for sale in dealerships early this summer.

According to GM, the Chevy Impala Midnight Edition is designed to give the full-size sedan “a more dramatic, sinister look.”

“Since its introduction in 2014, Impala has become a benchmark for Chevrolet car design,” said Steve Majoros, Chevy’s director of car marketing. “The Midnight Edition further strengthens the Impala’s dramatic, head-turning styling.”

The Impala Midnight Edition will feature a Jet Black exterior (including body color mirrors), a matching Jet Black interior, 19-inch machine-faced aluminum wheels with black accents, black grille and surround, front and rear black Chevrolet bowtie, sport pedals and a black rear spoiler.

The Midnight Edition package will be available on 1LT, 2LT, and LTZ trim levels, with prices ranging from $995 to $1,595 for the blackout treatment.

Customers can choose between the standard 2.5-liter iVLC motor with stop/start technology, or a 3.6-liter V6 motor, which has the distinction of being the most powerful naturally aspirated engine in its segment.

Although the Midnight Edition will be available for the 2016 Chevy Impala, a small number of 2015 Midnight Edition models will be produced in the 2LT trim level with the standard 2.5-liter powertrain.

It’s nice that there is an all-black Midnight Edition of the Impala, and all, but who will weep for the Champagne Silver Impala?
