The new Malibu received a five-star safety rating from KNCAP thanks to a perfect score in the Side Moving Deformable Barrier test and near-perfect scores in both the Full Frontal ODB and Full Front crash tests. Among the safety features available in the new Malibu are eight standard airbags and a body structure consisting of 73% high-strength and ultra-high-strength steel supplied by POSCO.

Additional active safety technologies include Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist, and Side Blind Zone Alert. A system of 17 different safety sensors—including ultrasonic sensors, short-range radar, long-range radar, and multiple cameras—is utilized in order to maximize the effectiveness of these technologies and ensure the safety of drivers and passengers.

“It is an honor for every Chevrolet engineer to receive this award for two consecutive generations of the Malibu,” said Dongseok Kim, Managing Director of GMI Engineering. “With our safety first philosophy, Chevrolet will continue to build the safest and highest-quality vehicles in the world.”
