There are many points to consider when shopping for a new vehicle, but if you’re the type of person who’s simply looking for the most powerful car possible without having to break the bank, then you’ll be happy to find out that Chevrolet offers two vehicles that cost less than $40,000 and have more than 300 horsepower.

The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS carries a starting MSRP of $37,295. Underneath the hood of the new SS is a 6.2-liter V8 direct-injection engine that pumps out 455 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque. Consumers also have the choice between a six-speed manual and eight-speed automatic transmission with steering-wheel mounted paddle shifters. In terms of fuel economy, the Camaro SS with the automatic transmission produces an EPA-estimated 20 mpg combined. That isn’t too shabby for a coupe that can go from 0 to 60 mph in four seconds.

If you’re too large to fit comfortably inside the new Camaro SS or are just in need of more cargo space, Chevy also offers the 2016 Impala 2LT, which is powered by a 305-horsepower V6 engine and carries a starting MSRP of $31,310. The new Impala 2LT comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, and the Chevrolet Mylink infotainment system with an 8-inch touchcreen that’s compatible with Apple CarPlay. Besides offering more cargo space than the sporty Camaro, the V6-powered Impala also has better EPA-estimated fuel economy at 22 mpg combined.

Chevrolet enthusiasts would probably enjoy both of these iconic nameplates, but for people who just need to be different, the Subaru brand also offers a vehicle with more than 300 ponies at less than $40,000, which comes in the form of the WRX STI.
