As Chevy celebrates the 50th birthday of the Camaro, the Bowtie brand has revealed the car that will be running for Chevy in the NASCAR XFINITY Series next year: the sixth-generation Camaro SS. This would be replacing the previous-generation Camaro, which has been representing Chevrolet in the XFINITY series since it was introduced in 2013. Appropriately, the new Camaro SS was revealed at Daytona International Speedway, ahead of the Subway Firecracker 250 Presented by Coca-Cola, although it won’t hit the track itself until next February.

Chevrolet created the race car’s unique contours (including its changed upper nose and hood) using the traditional wind tunnel development, but also included computational fluid dynamics analysis.

Hopefully, this will bring Chevy another XFINITY checkered flag (making it 408 since 1982 and five so far this year) and adding to the most manufacturer titles in NASCAR history.

“For the past 50 years, Camaro has played a key role in Chevrolet’s racing success in winning races and championships,” said Mark Kent, director of Chevrolet Racing. “We look forward to further success with the new Camaro SS in the NASCAR XFINITY Series.” He later added that “racing improves the breed and helps us design better cars for the showroom. That’s why Chevrolet is on the track week after week, year after year.”
