Chevy Wins Top Two 5-Year Cost to Own Plug-in Vehicle Awards
Chevrolet’s electric program has done it again, with the Spark EV once more taking the title of Best Plug-in Vehicle in Kelley Blue Book’s 2016 5-Year Cost to Own Awards. In total, KBB estimates that the Spark EV costs about $30,104 to own and operate for 5 years, thanks to its low starting price (as low as $15,000 with all federal and state incentives). This is a wide margin below the next car on the list.

KBB praised the Spark EV for its “sporty demeanor” as well as its zero-emission drivetrain, adding that, although the Spark EV is only 12.2 feet long (making it a very small car), it has one of the largest cabins among minicars, as well as an impressive 327 lb-ft of electric instant torque.
Of course, we did say that Chevrolet took the top two spots, and that is because of the 2016 Chevrolet Volt, a plug-in hybrid with a 5-year cost to own of $41,352 (this edged out the Nissan LEAF by $300). KBB described the Volt by saying, “Raising its game on every level, the fully redesigned Chevrolet Volt offers more room, greater range, superior performance and a bolder look.”
