Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Is the Ultimate Concept
Usually concept cars revealed at auto shows are sleek (or wild) pieces of art that will never see actual production. They are meant to show off a brand’s advances in technology and its look at the future. At the New York Auto Show, one concept is taking the spotlight away from the manufacturers, and it’s actually with a look at the past.
Retired New York Police officer Tony Garofalo brought his lovingly handcrafted replica of the movie classic car Chitty Chitty Bang Bang to the auto show, and it’s certainly turning some heads. There’s no denying that Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is a classic movie, and many of us have fond memories of it from childhood. It’s not surprising, then, that car fans would like to see their favorite fantasy car drive from film into real life.
According to Garofalo, the car was built on the skeleton of a 1914 Overland Coupe and was equipped with an engine from 1928. Many of the pieces of the car had to be handcrafted, such as the wooden passenger area and the iconic wings that would help the car fly.
Once the car was completed, Garofalo has been fielding offers to buy the car, including one of 1.5 million dollars. He says that he’s not quite ready to sell it however, because he wants to enjoy the car for a bit after the years of blood, sweat, and tears poured into the vehicle.
