Christina Aguilera is jumping back into music with the upcoming release of her new album, “Liberation.” To celebrate, she made an appearance on James Corden’s ever-popular segment, Carpool Karaoke.

The two started off with a classic, empowering song, “Fighter.” Within a few lines, James interrupted Christina and asked her to teach him how to get the growl she has in her voice. While she did try, she said it’s not really something you can be taught; it just comes from the angst and the feeling behind the song (singing along to that song really does channel your inner fighter).

From there they dove into Christina’s start on the Mickey Mouse Club as James prodded for information about her childhood crushes. Ryan Gosling or Justin Timberlake, that was the question — and while Christina confirmed that she and Britney Spears had eyes for Justin, it turns out that Ryan Gosling had a crush on Britney.

Melissa McCarthy made an unexpected appearance during the episode, popping up from the floor of the back seat, jamming out to Christina and Redman’s “Dirrty.” Once Melissa joined the party, James pointed out that they might need a little bit of coaching in order to reach Christina’s Diva status. “We think we could be divas,” said James. “But we need someone to teach us the true technique.”

They pulled three bedazzled microphones out of the glove compartment and went through Christina’s vocal warm ups and some runs before testing out Christina’s upper range (spoiler alert: it’s pretty high, in case you hadn’t guessed). The trio finished with a throwback to OG Christina with “Genie in a Bottle” before dropping Melissa off.

James and Christina ended the episode on a sweet note by singing Christina’s hit song (well, one of them), “Beautiful,” hand in hand.
