Over 1.2 million Ram pickup trucks will be recalled this month due to “steering-system tie rods that may have been misaligned during assembly or steering-system service.” Chrysler has announced that the pickups, which were mostly sold in the U.S., will be split into three separate recalls.

The largest recall will focus on 2003-2008 Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks, encompassing about 842,400 units. The other two smaller campaigns will recall 2008-2012 Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups, chassis cabs and 2008 Ram 1500 4×4 Mega Cabs, equaling 294,000 units plus 43,500 more units from the 2008-2012 model years of the Ram 4500 and 5500 4×4 chassis cabs.

Though this recall is so large, not every one of the models might be affected by the tie rod problem. According to a recent press release, Chrysler estimates that “as many as 726,000 may not need repair.”
