All across the Midwest, Chrysler Group’s Thanksgiving Food Drive has been successful in providing Thanksgiving meals to a whopping 20,000 families in need. The food drive was possible thanks to employees from Chrysler Group facilities in Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, and Michigan.

One of the beneficiaries of Chrysler’s food drive was the Gleaners Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan. The president of Gleaners, Gerry Brisson, stated, “In southeast Michigan, more than 707,000 people are food insecure and despite a recovering economy, many working families are still having trouble making ends meet. This much-needed support from Chrysler Group’s Thanksgiving Food Drive will help Gleaners ease the burden for many families this holiday season.”

Other Michigan food banks that received help from Chrysler Group include Hope Center in Macomb and Lighthouse of Oakland County. Chrysler Group also reached out to Faith in Action – Chelsea/Dexter and the Monroe County Opportunity Program, as well other organizations in Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio.

In total, Michigan employees filled up 35 pallets with a wide array of food for the holidays—ranging from frozen turkeys (purchased by The Chrysler Foundation) to canned veggies and fruit, and from stuffing to cranberry sauce. In short, it was enough food to prepare more than 27,000 meals.

“We strive to make ‘doing for others’ part of everyday life at Chrysler Group. This effort is the culmination of a food drive that will allow families in our communities to enjoy a traditional holiday meal. We are grateful to Chrysler employees and the UAW for their generosity,” said Jody Trapasso, the Senior Vice President for External Affairs at Chrysler Group and the President of The Chrysler Foundation. “Caring for our neighbors is needed more than ever. Over 46 million Americans face hunger each year, and nearly half of those are children and seniors.”

In the four years that Chrysler Group’s Thanksgiving Food Drive has been around, employees have served an estimated 60,000+ families.
