Minivans are not usually considered the most fuel efficient-vehicles on the road, but the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid is far from your typical minivan.

The Pacifica Hybrid is the first minivan to earn the best possible rating of 10 in the EPA’s Green Vehicle List. This rating is a reflection of the Pacifica’s strong fuel efficiency and low greenhouse gas emissions.

Every 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid comes equipped with an eFlite dual-motor electrically variable transmission that helps this minivan achieve EPA-estimated efficiency of 84 miles-per-gallon-equivalent (MPGe). This rating is even better than what FCA projected for the Pacifica Hybrid.

“At 84 MPGe, the all-new 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid surpasses our initially stated performance,” said Tim Kuniskis, FCA US LLC Head of Passenger Car Brands – Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and Fiat. “These EPA test results paint a clear picture of the benefits our customers can expect from driving the most fuel-efficient minivan ever.”

The Pacifica Hybrid also boasts a total driving range of 566 miles and a 33 mile range when using only electric power.

Powering the hybrid minivan is a Penstar 3.6-liter V6 engine that’s aided by a 16kW battery pack. The Pacifica Hybrid also uses a one-way clutch motor that allows the engine to provide torque to the rear wheels. Without this technology, the motor would simply work as a generator.

The Pacifica Hybrid takes approximately 14 hours to fully charge when using a standard 120-volt (Level 1) charger, but Mopar offers a 240-volt (Level 2) charger that can get the job done in as little as two hours.

The 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid carries a starting MSRP of $41,995, but an available U.S. federal tax credit can lower the price to $34,495.
