Coca-Cola and Ford Use PlantBottle Technology in Fusion Energi
PlantBottle Technology will adorn the interior of one lucky Fusion Energi research vehicle.
Some people take the “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” adage we learned in elementary school to heart—especially Coca-Cola and Ford. In a partnership between the two major companies, renewable materials have come to life with the use of PlantBottle Technology to create an entirely unique interior for one lucky Ford Fusion Energi research vehicle.

PlantBottle Technology, which was introduced by Coca-Cola in 2009 as the first recyclable PET plastic bottle, allows for the interior fiber of the Fusion Energi to be woven into durable PET fabric from PlantBottle material. The fabric consists of up to 30% plant-based materials.
“By using PlantBottle Technology in a plug-in hybrid, Ford and Coca-Cola are showing the broad potential to leverage renewable materials that help replace petroleum and other fossil fuels, reducing the overall environmental impact of future vehicles,” said john Viera, global director of sustainability and vehicle environmental matters at Ford.
Already Ford’s most fuel-efficient sedan, the Fusion Energi, which has a total range of up to 620 miles, will help the environment even more with the use of a PlantBottle Technology in the interior. The Ford Fusion Energi research vehicle can be seen at the Los Angeles Auto Show this week.
