We’re only a few short hours from the beginning of Super Bowl 50, and Coldplay is set to perform at the famed halftime show. If The Late Late Show with James Corden‘s latest episode of Carpool Karaoke is to be believed, CBS and the NFL left Coldplay frontman Chris Martin on his own to travel to San Francisco, and it’s only thanks to James Corden that he made it to the venue on time.

Corden picked up Chris Martin after the late night host spotted him holding a cardboard sign on the side of the road. Check out their antics for yourself in the video below.

One of the best moments from this episode of Carpool Karaoke is when Corden forgot the lyrics to “Viva la Vida” and Martin gently corrected him by pausing the song and staring incredulously at his driver.

Martin also brought along a small keyboard for the ride, joking that he planned to use it onstage for the big game’s halftime show, and proceeded to play a little jingle about football. The car ride then turned serious, when Martin played the late David Bowie’s “Heroes” and both men sang along.

As many of you know, it takes about six hours on a good day to drive from LA, where The Late Late Show is taped, to San Francisco. James Corden, fighting back yawns, demanded a stop for the night at a motel. When the two celebrities woke up, they were shocked to discover their SUV had been stolen. The end of the video is a priceless shot of Martin and Cordon on a borrowed bicycle built for two riding up the California coast, still singing loudly.
