The Toyota RAV4 was a best-seller for the automaker in 2015

For the fourth year running, Toyota has been named top automotive retail sales brand in 2015. This was thanks to a whopping 2,499,313 units sold across the automaker’s three retail brands—Toyota, Lexus, and Scion.

December itself saw sales of 238,350—a 2.9% increase on a daily selling rate (DSR) basis compared to December 2014, and the brand’s best December ever. This was largely thanks to the popularity of models like the RAV4, Highlander, and light truck models like the Tacoma and 4Runner. In fact, some models like the RAV4 and Highlander posted their best-ever December sales as gas prices continued to fall.

Over the year, Toyota saw a best-ever year for the Corolla (363,332 sales), RAV4 (17.8% increase in sales), and Highlander (8.8% increase in sales). The Camry was the best-selling passenger car in the United States for the 14th consecutive year.

“2015 was a standout year for the auto industry,” said Bill Fay, group vice president and general manager for the Toyota division. “Best-ever light truck sales helped the Toyota division earn the retail sales crown for the fourth consecutive year.”
