Chevrolet Fountain at Comerica Park in Detroit will feature a Corvette and Silverado this season

Like all Major League Baseball teams, the Detroit Tigers are fast approaching Opening Day, which they’ll host on Monday afternoon at home against the Minnesota Twins. That means the grounds crew at Comerica Park is making their final preparations, Alfredo Simon is driving his chrome Mercedes back from Florida to Michigan, and a Velocity Yellow Corvette Z06 is being hoisted to the top of Comerica Park’s Chevrolet Fountain.

The Vette is being joined atop the fountain by a Special Midnight Edition Silverado pickup, and both were lifted into place by crane—a process which took roughly three hours.

“As the Official Vehicle of Major League Baseball, what better way could Chevrolet show our love of the game than by giving our vehicles a bird’s eye view of our hometown team?” asked Paul Edwards, the vice president of Chevrolet marketing.

For six seasons now, Chevy has sponsored the fountain in centerfield, which shoots torrents of water whenever a Tigers batter hits a home run.

“We like to think of these vehicles as the Chevrolet cheering section to drive those centerfield home runs,” Edwards added.

Expect those cheers to turn to boos when the Tigers face the Cleveland Indians’ new shortstop: a foreign luxury SUV.
