Corvette’s Valet Mode Catches Bad Valet Man in the Act

The Corvette’s Valet Mode is new for this year as part of the Performance Data Recorder (PDR), and already it’s highly controversial. In fact, certain aspects of the PDR were illegal in some states as it was first rolled out. That’s because Valet Mode, which acts as a nanny cam for your ‘Vette while you’re away, was originally made to record audio within the car to see what valets say behind the wheel. Unfortunately for Chevy, this is illegal in 15 states, so the automaker rolled out a software update to eliminate audio recording.

But the Corvette’s Valet Mode is also proving useful. In the video below, which, since it is in California, is without audio, a man’s PDR captures a valet doing some not very valet-appropriate things with his Corvette. At first, the valet abides by all the laws as he takes the Corvette to the second level of a parking garage. It’s only when he thinks he is out of sight that he rockets the car to 50 mph, shifting through 5 gears as he does so, before coming to a stop and seemingly bumping into a wall as he parks the car.

“Oh, crap. Look what I did. Luckily no one caught it on camera. Phew.”

According to Corvette Blogger, the owner checked out the video and then reported the valet to the company responsible.

Now if only Mr. Fry’s 1961 Ferrari 250 GT had had Valet Mode in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off—then maybe, just maybe, the long-haired valet would have followed the law and then Cameron wouldn’t have reversed the car out of his father’s stupidly all-glass, elevated garage while trying to take the miles off. But then it wouldn’t be much of a movie, now would it?
