Could America Get a Nissan Sentra Wagon?
There is no questioning that five-door vehicles are popular once again, both as hatchbacks or wagon vehicles. While the rest of the internet constantly wonders “Will it waffle?”, every introduction of a new or redesigned small car seems to be met with the car press asking “Will it wagon?”
At one time, America had the Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon and the Ford Focus Wagon, but they have since been discontinued. American car buyers have also been denied the VW Golf R SportWagen, Mazda6 Wagon, and Jaguar XFR-S Sportbrake, just to name a few of the vehicles kept from our shores. A recent WardsAuto interview with a Nissan executive in Detroit, though, is giving us hope for a brighter future.
According to the report, Nissan is looking into offering more engine options for its popular Nissan Sentra. That’s great news, but the Director of Product Planning for Nissan North America, Michael Bunce, also mentioned that the automaker was considering bringing back the Nissan Sentra hatchback or wagon. This would not be a new venture for the Sentra, as the model was available as a hatchback and a wagon from 1982-1990.
Now that the press knows the Nissan Sentra Wagon could be making a return, we don’t doubt that we’ll see updates on this topic on a fairly regular basis. Once you open the conversation about adding a fifth door to your vehicle, it’s very hard to stop the river of questions. And, let’s be honest, a Nissan wagon is hard not to get excited about.
