Mazda’s redesigned CX-5 has been turning heads and pulling in awards since it was first revealed, even taking the model to the position of top seller. Now, though, the CX-5 has picked up another prestigious blue ribbon to hang in its trophy room, as the 2017 CX-5 was named the 2017 Digital Trends Best SUV/CUV of the year.

To determine its winners, the publication’s editors judge each new vehicle based on technological advancement and on the general design of its user experience. In the CX-5, the editors pointed out the SUV’s “engaging handling, sharp-looking exterior and satisfying utility capability.”

This achievement becomes more impressive when you consider the competition, as there were two other SUVs in the final running which the CX-5 defeated: the Jaguar F-PACE and the Bentley Bentayga.

Of course, Mazda is thrilled about the award, particularly since it was competing head-to-head with premium marques like Bentley and Jaguar.

Mazda North American Operations CX-5 Vehicle Line Manager Tetsu Nakazawa said, “We’re grateful that Mazda CX-5 was recognized by Digital Trends, further demonstrating the quality, craftsmanship and overall upmarket experience that sets it apart—and above—in its crowded, competitive segment. We are proud that our vehicles continue to receive praise for their driver-centric focus and class-above refinement.”

Most recently, the CX-5 was also awarded the title of Top Safety Pick+ from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety, joining the rest of the lineup to be tested by the nonprofit organization in holding the IIHS’ highest title.
