Dale Earnhardt Jr. Not Bringing Back Regan Smith To His Team
Despite winning six races in four seasons, as well as finishing runner-up last year for the NASCAR XFINITY Series championship, driver Regan Smith will not be returning to the No. 7 Chevrolet Camaro next season, which is partially owned by Dale Earnhardt Jr.
“Sounds like tv didn’t show my post race speech,” said Regan via a Tweet, “but to confirm, I will not be returning to the 7 car next season.”
Smith won his first start in the XFINITY series with Earnhardt’s JR Motorsports team in 2012 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, but a full-time sponsor still hasn’t been found for his racecar to cover all of next season. His current sponsor, TaxSlayer.com, will only be partnering with the team for 10 races in 2016.
The 32-year-old Smith will be a free agent at the conclusion of the season and has three more races to audition for a spot with another NASCAR race team. Only 33 points behind leader Chris Buescher in the overall standing, Smith still has a shot at winning the points title this year.
The NASCAR XFINITY Series will be in action again on Saturday, November 7th, when the racecars will be visiting Texas Motor Speedway. The race will begin at 3:30 pm and will be broadcast by NBC.
