Daring Hyundai Elantra Saves Space Shuttle Crew in New Action-Packed Ad
Can this little Elantra bring a team of stranded astronauts to safety?
If your life was in danger, and the sky was falling around you, could you depend on a Hyundai Elantra to carry you to safety?
That’s the wild and adrenaline-fueled premise of the latest 2017 Hyundai Elantra commercial, which depicts the “extreme boldness” that the compact car–and its drivers–have in the most dangerous situations. In this case, that situation is the rescue of a space shuttle crew.

The commercial begins on a stretch of rural desert highway, surrounded by sand and mountains. A young, completely average man (zip-up hoodie and all) hears a news report on the radio as he’s driving his blue 2017 Hyundai Elantra. The radio announcement details the explosion and crash of a space shuttle carrying three crewmen–which the young man suddenly sees hurtling through the sky above him.
Overcome with determination, the little Elantra careens off the road and toward the site of the crash.
As the three crew men escape from the smoldering wreckage amid a hailstorm of debris, epic cinematic music begins playing as the Elantra pulls up. “Guys, get in!” shouts the driver as he throws open the passenger door.
In a daring rescue mission to bring the crew to safety, the Elantra uses its features such as Blind Spot Detection and Advanced High-Strength Steel to dodge fiery, explosive debris falling from the sky. After some close calls and near-misses (which send the astronauts into a panic), the car makes it back to the road unscathed. Needless to say, the hitchhikers are impressed with the Elantra.
Admittedly, the commercial’s premise is completely impractical–but darned if it isn’t well-made and fun to watch. The effects–both digital and practical–are perfectly blended with footage of the Elantra in action on the sandy terrain. Plus, the pulse-pounding soundtrack and tight editing keep the pacing on its toes.
While it’s doubtful a Hyundai Elantra would ever pull this off in real life, the ad does make one reconsider what the Korean compact is capable of.
