When Chevrolet and GMC unveiled the 2015 Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon mid-sized pickups in January, we all knew that we could expect big things from the trucks—and anticipated a high amount of buzz around the models. But neither General Motors nor we at The News Wheel expected to see so much interest generated over the two pickups.

Currently, Chevrolet has more than 28,000 dealership orders for the Chevy Colorado and 14,000 dealership orders for the GMC Canyon, according to Automotive News. This is a whopping five times more than the automaker expected to receive, and the ordering process only opened up a month ago.

Brian Sweeney, the Chevy U.S. chief, told Automotive News, “The dealers’ enthusiasm for the Colorado is off the charts.” He added that the amount of early orders is “a sign that the dealers really believe in this product.”

While sales figures will never be nearly as high for the Colorado and Canyon as they are for the Silverado and Sierra, relatively high sales in this first year on the market are anticipated for the two mid-sizers. According to IHS Automotive, AutoPacific, and LMC Automotive, we can expect to see anywhere from 73,000 to 91,400 trucks sold next year. (Compare that to the near 665,000 Silverados and Sierras that GM sold last year.)
