Dear Buick, We Want a Regal Sports Tourer
Buick will fulfill its ‘80s hair metal fantasy by adding a convertible to its 2016 model year lineup, but it’s worth reiterating that the Cascada is by no means a new vehicle. The Cascada has been around since 2013, sold as the Vauxhall Cascada in the UK and the Opel Cascada in Deutschland. If you’re not sensing a theme here, we’ll spell it out: it’s that same exact car, only rebadged as a Buick for America
But the Cascada will also take up another badge later this year when it arrives in Oceania. The Holden Cascada will go on sale in Australia and New Zealand, where it will join the Astra GTC, Astra VXR, and Insignia VXR—also rebadged Opel models. In other words, Opel serves as the basis for a lot of models sold in a lot of markets outside of the UK.
Opel and Buick are no strangers to sharing. The Buick Encore was jointly developed to match the Opel Mokka, the Verano is analogous to the Astra, and the Regal is basically the Insignia. So this begs an obvious question: why have we not yet gotten a Buick Regal Sports Tourer?
Seriously. What’s the hold up? Make this happen. Give it the Regal’s 2.0-liter turbo, tune it up for more horsepower, and sell it in chocolate.
You’re welcome for all the money you’re going to make off of this, by the way.
