Determine How Traffic Violations Will Affect Your Insurance Premiums
Nobody enjoys paying high car insurance premiums, as the average American dished out nearly $1,000 last year to cover their vehicular butt. However, it’s a necessary evil, and most of us try to keep our costs as low as possible because of that. If you want to keep your insurance premiums from spiking, there are eight specific violations you’ll want to avoid.

Violations Which Increase Your Insurance Costs
According to InsuranceQuotes.com, eight moving violations have the potential of raising your insurance premiums by at least 20%.
The lowest offenses on the list are improper passing, speeding 1-15 mpg over the limit, and driving the wrong way. While worthy of reprimand, these are far from the most severe and thus will only increase your costs about 20-21%. Similarly, careless driving, speeding 16-30 mpg over the limit, and speeding more than 31 mpg over the limit all increase the insurance premiums by another notch, between 26-30%.
Still, none of those six offenses are as impactful as the top two on InsuranceQuotes.com’s list. The top dog is, unsurprisingly, a DUI/DWI offense for driving while intoxicated. Because of the amount and severity of accidents which occur every year because of impaired driving, as well as the tendency of repeat offenses, this violation can nearly double your insurance rates (92.5%).
In second place, reckless driving can increase your rates by 83.3%. This moving violation is a tricky one, as it can cover anything from tailgating to running stop signs. Typically, this catch-all category can cause a big leap in your costs.
If you want to keep your auto insurance premiums low, keep control behind the wheel and don’t give in to your impulses. Otherwise, you’ll probably end up paying the price!
