Did R&B Singer The Weeknd Buy a McLaren P1?

Thanks to the success of recent Billboard No. 1 singles such as “The Hills” and “Can’t Feel My Face,” R&B singer The Weekend has never been more popular. However, the big question asked by many of his fans seems to be how did the 26-year-old musician reward himself, after his album was certified platinum by the RIAA?

For The Weeknd, the answer to that question was to pick up an ultra-exclusive McLaren P1. In fact, this supercar is so unique that only 375 examples of the P1 were ever produced. Furthermore, while many other McLaren P1 owners put on a racing helmet and take their vehicle to the track, The Weeknd would rather drive his P1 on the street, and as an alternative to wearing a racing suit, the R&B singer prefers an En Noir plaid shirt and Just Don x Air Jordan 2 limited-edition sneakers when piloting his $1 million supercar.

So what exactly makes the McLaren P1 so desirable? Well, for starters the P1 comes equipped with a 3.8-liter V8 engine and an additional electric motor, which work together to create 903 horsepower and 722 lb-ft of torque. In testing performed by Car and Driver, the McLaren P1 was able to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in a mere 2.7 seconds. However, the vehicle’s top speed is limited by the manufacturer to just 218 mph, which is approximately 20 mph less than what the McLaren F1 produced.

Other notable features of McLaren P1 include electro-hydraulically assisted steering, an oversized rear wing, and a hydro-pneumatic suspension. In addition, the extensive use of carbon fiber and Kevlar blend in its design mean the P1’s curb weight is approximately 3,100 pounds. This low weight combined with the impressive power produced by its hybrid powertrain allows the P1 to rocket from 0 to 100 mph in just 5.1 seconds.

It’s clear the McLaren P1 is a supercar among supercars, so why won’t The Weeknd smile in any of the Instagram pictures that show the singer with his $1 million McLaren?
