Dodge’s signature muscle car gains a bit more muscle

If any one car in the current automotive industry seems to be acquiring new special edition models at an accelerated rate, then it would have to be the Dodge Challenger. Recently, Dodge revealed its most powerful Challenger model ever: the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, capable of producing 840 horsepower.

Even after Dodge unleashed the Demon, it has unveiled yet another special edition Dodge Challenger vehicle, one that automotive fans have been craving for quite some time. After all, Dodge just announced that a new Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody would be added to the Challenger lineup.

A Wider Challenger: New Challenger Hellcat ADR: Wide Design for the Drag Strip

Dodge drivers have been asking for a widebody version of the Dodge Challenger ever since the muscle car’s inception nearly a decade ago. Using the same fender flares as the Dodge Demon, the Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody will be exactly what those drivers have been after.

The fender flares add 3.5 inches of width to the Dodge Challenger. Additionally, the new Hellcat Widebody will sit on a set of 20 x 11-inch “Devil’s Rim” split-five spoke aluminum wheels, equipped with 305/35ZR20 Pirelli P-Zero performance tires.

Adding some extra “flare” to the Dodge Challenger

That’s not all that is new for this Widebody Challenger. The Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody will also come equipped with a standard electric power steering (EPS) system, designed to improve handling performance.

Under the hood, the SRT Hellcat Widebody will draw power from Dodge’s famous 707-horsepower supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI® Hellcat V-8 engine. With a new stance and improved steering, the Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody was able to lower its 1.7-mile track time by approximately 2 seconds per lap.

“The new Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody completes our strongest Dodge muscle car lineup in history,” said Tim Kuniskis, Head of Passenger Cars for Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and FIAT – FCA North America. “Our brand, engineering and design teams poured a ton of effort into making the new SRT Demon the world’s fastest quarter-mile production car, so now we’re leveraging that know-how, and some of those vital elements and transferring them to the new Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody for improved performance on the street and a bolder, more aggressive new look.”

While the Challenger Widebody may not be as pricey as the Dodge Demon, it will still cost drivers quite the pretty penny. The Widebody model of the Challenger begins with a MSRP of $71,495, excluding destination fees.

Orders for the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody will begin this month, with deliveries scheduled for the third quarter of 2017. So, if the Dodge Challenger never had enough muscle to suit your tastes, then there is now a Challenger for you.
