Hyundai is known for producing intriguing concept sketches of its soon-to-be-released redesigns, and the brand’s look for the upcoming 2016 Tucson is no exception.

In the teaser video, President and Chief Design Officer of Hyundai, Peter Schreyer, employs charcoal and paint to produce a sleek, athletic rendering of the Tucson. He points out the biggest changes: large, low front grille, narrow headlight clusters, and plump wheel arches. “The all-new Tucson has a bold and athletic presence and a proud stance,” he states in the video. “Its design is characterized by flowing surfaces, bold proportions, sharp lines and–most important–our brand signature hexagonal grille.”

The automaker intends the refreshed Tucson to be a big step forward for the brand on a global front, due to the design influence and heightened appeal. It will be dropping its ix35 name still being used across Europe, going forward with “Tucson” across the board. We’ll see if this second wind will give the crossover enough momentum to keep up with the highly-successful Santa Fe SUV.
