Dorel Juvenile USA Recalls Over 89,000 Child Seats For Label Mishap
Dorel Juvenile USA has issued a recall for more than 89,000 child safety seats on the premise that safety labels display incorrect installation instructions. The recall encompasses more than 21 different models of car seat, including the Eddie Bauer and Safety First brands, which are not in compliance with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard established by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The complaint, according to the NHTSA, covers seats manufactured between July 20, 2010 and May 18, 2011.
Dorel Juvenile USA spokeswoman Julie Vallese has stated that the incorrect labels were included for the purpose of making installation easier for customers and are not in fact required by safety laws.
“The performance, crashworthiness, all of the structural integrity of the car seats are unaffected in any way by this recall,” she said. Vallese added that the information regarding installation listed in the owner’s manuals is indeed correct.
Registered owners will be notified by Dorel and will receive new labels free of charge. Unregistered owners may call Dorel’s Recall Hotline at 1-877-675-2355 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. EST Monday through Friday.
