SYNC AppLink Developer Challenge Dublin

Ford has named the winner of its SYNC AppLink Developer Challenge Dublin to be Drive Efficient. The app, created by a team from Unu, monitors engine revving to determine if the driver is properly utilizing engine torque and offers verbal and visual feedback. The Germany-based team wins €50,000 and the chance to further the development of Drive Efficient and other new apps with Ford.

“I was blown away by the creativity I saw here today. Working with innovators from outside of the automotive industry is a proven way of generating ideas that can enhance the driving experience, as evidenced by the quality of the app designs presented during the SYNC AppLink Developer Challenge Dublin,” said Don Butler, Ford executive director, Connected Vehicle and Services. “Ford Motor Company is tapping into talent like Unu that can generate truly innovative and disruptive ideas with the potential to be translated to reality.”

The announcement coincides with the kickoff of the Web Summit tech conference; Ford Executive Chairman Bill Ford took part in a live-streamed interview with Bloomberg’s Caroline Hyde, wherein he discussed the roles of start-ups and tech companies in determining answers for future transportation questions.
