Elon Musk: “Maybe We’ll Make a Flying Car”

“Also, I might just start breeding dragons.”

A lot of people are projecting things they plan on doing for fun in the future today, particularly with the announcement that Microsoft will be dropping The Master Chief Collection in November (if you’re anything like me, then you’re pretty jacked at the idea of getting to play Halo 2 multiplayer one mo’gain). If you’re Elon Musk, you’ve got the bar set just a little bit higher. Higher as in “making a flying car just for the hell of it” higher.

Musk, who has said that he intends to make the design patents for Tesla’s Supercharger system available to the competition in order to help “accelerate the advent of electric cars,” told The Independent that yeah, he’d like to make a flying car. Why the hell wouldn’t he want to make a flying car?

“Maybe we’ll make a flying car, just for fun,” the dead-serious Musk told Chris Green. “I’ve thought about it quite a lot. We could definitely make a flying car – but that’s not the hard part. The hard part is, how do you make a flying car that’s super safe and quiet? Because if it’s a howler, you’re going to make people very unhappy.”

Right, because when we think of the logistics behind flying cars, the first thing that comes to mind is yeah, but wouldn’t they be loud?

There is no such ambiguity when it comes to Musk/Tesla’s plans to make a car that can turn into a submarine. Because that’s totally happening.

“We will be making a submarine car. It can transition from being a submarine to a car that drives up on the beach. Maybe we’ll make two or three, but it wouldn’t be more than that. It’s not like we’d sell it, because I think the market for submarine cars is quite small.”

Kind of makes you feel like a slouch for wanting to do little more than play Halo in your free time.
