Elvis’ 1977 Cadillac Seville is Surprisingly Ordinary

When you think about Elvis Presley, you automatically think of glitzy jumpsuits, Vegas, and overstated glamour. So it’s a bit surprising to discover that Elvis’ 1977 Cadillac Seville is, well, quite boring, really. It’s burgundy and silver, and exudes none of the sequins and sparkles we would expect from the King himself.

The car in question is currently on display at the UK’s National Motor Museum, sporting the license plate “ELVIS 1,” and looking remarkably normal amongst its surrounding classic cars. The car is on loan to the museum from its current owner, Steve Horn, who bought the car at auction for a mere $81,250.

Elvis bought the 1977 Cadillac Seville new in 1976 and used it as his personal car. He picked out the color scheme, as well as the car’s classy wood grain interior accents and power windows and mirrors (quite a rarity back in the day). Of course, the King added one special touch that’s quite unique—a CB radio that allowed him to communicate with the kitchen at Graceland (priorities) and the gate staff so they knew when to open the gates to let him in. Because waiting would be unacceptable, of course.

While it’s lacking Elvis’ signature style, the ’77 Seville is still well worth seeing as part of our automotive heritage, so if you’re in the UK, make sure you head to Beaulieu to check it out for yourself!
