Buick sales in January totaled 12,553 units in the US, marking a 5.5% decrease from the year prior.

Buick’s model lineup was down almost across the board with the Encore standing as the lone bright spot. Buick sold 3,454 Encore models in January, good for a 46.4% year-over-year increase.

Apart from the Encore and the Enclave—essentially flat at 3,497 units—all Buick models were down double digits in January. The Verano was down 11% with 2,776 units sold, the LaCrosse was down 29% with 2,023 units sold, and the Regal was down 44.8% with 792 units sold.

On the plus side, Buick’s sales in January have typically hovered in the 10,000-to-13,500-unit range for the last five years, and that first month of sales has consistently been Buick’s weakest for the past three years.

Buick has been quick to point out that sales of the Enclave have trended upward in nearly every year that it’s been on the market and that the availability of AWD in its lineup should serve to make it popular in snow-choked regions over the next few months. The late-year addition of the Buick Cascada convertible should also serve to bolster sales when the weather gets warm.
