Buick sales totaled 21,678 units in the United States in August, down 2.7% year-over-year. Retail sales of Buick vehicles totaled 17,124 units, down 12.4% year-over-year.

August was notable if only because it marked the first time in 32 months that the Buick Encore did not experience year-over-year sales increase. GM cited tight inventories for a down sales month, and with the all-new 2017 Encore getting ready to hit the market, it is entirely possible that this would be the root cause for breaking of the Encore’s 31-month sales streak.

Encore sales totaled 5,843 units, a 7% year-over-year decrease. Through eight months, sales of the Encore are up 12.7% with a total of 49,187 units delivered. At retail, sales of the Encore are up 21% to date.

Buick’s two newest models—the Cascada and Envision—enjoyed respective strong months. Cascada sales totaled 622 units, bringing the convertible’s to-date sales total to 5,326 units. GM notes that 60% of all Cascada buyers are new customers not just to Buick, but to General Motors as a whole.

Envision sales totaled 1,531 units, which GM says is “in line with [its] plan.” That plan, apparently: “Sell Envisions to people.” Since arriving in the United States earlier this year, Buick has delivered a total of 4,478 Envisions.

Sales of the Regal and Verano both saw considerable gains in August, with the former up 52.1% at 2,205 units and the latter up 75.7% at 4,652 units. Sales of the LaCrosse were down 64.6% at 1,598 units, but with the arrival of the 2017 LaCrosse in late August, numbers are likely to be much stronger in September.

Through eight months, Buick’s sales in the United States total 148,845 units, down 0.4%.
