Enterprise Severs Ties with the National Rifle Assocation Amidst Gun Control Controversy

It’s been nearly 10 days since the deadly shooting that left 17 people dead at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Over the last week and a half, student survivors have transformed into activists, advocating for stricter gun control regulations.
Many took to Twitter to express their frustrations, particularly with corporations and individuals supporting the National Rifle Association, or the NRA. Hashtags surrounding gun reform began to surface on Twitter, with #BoycottNRA reaching the top trending spot in the United States.
On Thursday, Enterprise announced via Twitter that it will be ending its partnership with the NRA. The partnership will officially come to an end on March 26.

Enterprise Holdings is the parent company of three car rental companies: Enterprise, Alamo, and National. The ending of this partnership extends to all three rental companies.
Reactions to this news was negative on all fronts. Unsurprisingly, many NRA members were unhappy about losing their benefits while renting with Enterprise. But they weren’t the only ones upset by the news. While this step was seen as a win for many in pursuit of gun reform, many were still angry about the existence of a partnership at all.
However, it is worth noting that Enterprise did not break an existing contract. Enterprise is simply allowing the current contract to expire without renewal.

Only time will tell whether or not other NRA-partnered companies will follow suit in the wake of such controversy. Regardless, by the look of its Twitter feed, Enterprise’s customer service representatives have their hands full today.
