EPA Approves Natural Gas Cruze and Natural Gas Sonic

The 2015 Chevrolet Bi-Fuel Impala

Chevrolet already offers natural gas variants of a number of vehicles. Most popular is the bi-fuel Impala (which, of course, can run on your poo!), but it’s also released compressed natural gas (CNG) as an option for the Silverado 2500 and 3500 and the City Express cargo van.

It was a couple months ago, though, that we hinted that we might see a natural gas Cruze, courtesy of Crazy Diamond Performance. Turns out we’re getting more than we bargained for, as Crazy Diamond is also bringing us a natural gas Sonic to boot.

Both the natural gas Cruze and the natural gas Sonic have just received EPA approval, according to Crazy Diamond Performance. The CNG system can be retrofit to both the 1.4-liter and 1.8-liter systems, should reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 25%, and will offer a range of about 300 miles. Specific fuel economy numbers were not disclosed.
