Intelligent Speed Limiter

Last year, Ford revealed that its new S-MAX and Galaxy would come with a feature known as the Intelligent Speed Limiter. Using cameras to read speed signs and set a vehicle’s traveling speed accordingly, Ford’s Intelligent Speed Limiter has turned out to be an incredibly popular option in Europe. So popular that Ford has announced that it will be bringing the technology to the new Edge.

According to Ford, 95% of customers who purchased an S-MAX or Galaxy optioned it with the Intelligent Speed Limiter. This response has expressed to Ford that customers are comforted by the idea of being able to avoid traffic tickets without having to constantly remain cognizant of the speed limit and the speed of their vehicle.

“Drivers are not always conscious of speeding, and sometimes only becoming aware they were going too fast when they see the flash of the camera, receive a fine in the mail, or are pulled over by law enforcement,” said Stefan Kappes, active safety supervisor, Ford of Europe. “Intelligent Speed Limiter can remove one of the stresses of driving, helping ensure customers remain within the legal speed limit.”

This feature would come in handy this week in particular, where the European Traffic Police Network is holding a speed enforcement week in 27 different countries. Last year, TISPOL’s enforcement week in August led to 549, 237 detections of drivers going over the speed limit, 192,654 of which were made directly by officers.

Given this recurring event, as well as the ever-increasing number of speed cameras being used in the UK, getting a Ford vehicle with an Intelligent Speed Limiter seems to be a smart investment.
