Fake Ohio Cop Accidentally Pulls Over a Real Ohio Cop

When impersonating a police officer, the last person you want to pull over is a real police officer. However, that’s exactly what one Ohio man did last Sunday.
42-year-old North Kingsville resident Howard Maldonado was charged with impersonating an officer after he pulled over an actual off-duty Youngstown police officer.
The incident took place around 6:15 pm. Just before that, the off-duty officer was driving down Route 531 near Sunset Park. Suddenly, he was pulled over by a black Chevrolet Tahoe with police emergency lights spinning.
However, an officer did not emerge from the vehicle, but rather Maldonado, decked out in civilian clothes. Maldonado approached the off-duty officer and repeatedly attempted to convince him that he was a real cop. In a twist of fate, Maldonado discovered that he was speaking to a real cop, and thus realized his mistake.
Maldonado got back into his vehicle and drove away. The Youngstown officer reported the incident to North Kingsville Police. Using the provided information, police found Maldonado moments later on Route 193.
Police Chief Hugh Flanigan was apparently baffled, simply stating, “I don’t understand why he had red and blue lights [on his vehicle].”
Indeed.
Maldonado was charged with impersonating an officer, an offense that could potentially land him with six months in jail and a $1,000 fine. Maybe he’ll remember to actually wear a uniform the next time he attempts to play Cops and Robbers.
