A strong showing by Jeep during the month of March has helped lead to sales gains for FCA during the first quarter of 2018

Jeep had one of its best sales months ever in March

For the past few months, Fiat Chrysler’s sales have been on a pretty consistent decline. Last month, however, a strong sales performance from the Jeep brand helped FCA mitigate sales losses to a mere 1%.

During March, an even stronger sales performance all around led to a 14% sales gain for FCA.

By the end of the month, FCA had sold a total of 216,063 vehicles. During March of the previous year, FCA only sold 190,245 vehicles.

Nearly half of those sales came straight from the Jeep brand. Jeep sold a total of 98,382 units last month, a 45% sales increase compared to the 67,983 vehicles it sold during March of 2017.

The Jeep Wrangler managed to outsell both the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee last month, with a total of 27,829 units sold and a sales increase of 70%. The Jeep Compass experienced even greater sales gains, with a year-over-year increase of 553%.

Chrysler’s remaining two models experienced sales increases as well. The brand sold 6,223 of its Chrysler 300 sedans last month, a sales increase of 25%.

The Chrysler Pacifica experienced an even greater sales increase during March at 40%. Chrysler sold 13,086 Pacifica units last month.

Dodge sales were only on a slight 2% decline compared to a year prior. The Dodge Challenger experienced some major sales gains, with a 31% sales increase and a total of 8,150 units sold.

However, Dodge’s SUVs simply could not keep up with the growing assortment of new utility models to compete with. Durango sales were on a 10% decline, while Journey sales fell 13%.

Ram’s sales fell for a second consecutive month. Sales for the Ram Pickup were down by 11% as its replacement prepares to arrive on dealership lots.

Sales losses were even more severe for Ram’s commercial lineup. ProMaster Van sales were down by 39%, while ProMaster City sales fell 15%.

Sales for Fiat continued to rapidly decline last month. Even the Fiat 500 experienced a major 74% sales decline.

Alfa Romeo’s fortunes, on the other hand, were far more positive. Alfa sold 1,270 Stelvios and 1,284 Giulias during March.

Thanks to March’s strong performance, FCA’s sales are up to 514,769 units so far this year. When compared to the 510,798 units sold during the first quarter of 2017, this accounts for a 1% sales increase.
