When talented students with a knack for design put their minds to it, they can create some pretty incredible things. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles recognizes this, and it wants to provide those students with an outlet to really show what they are capable of. That is why the automotive group created the “Drive for Design” contest.

“Drive for Design” was founded in 2013 as an means to reward young designers for their incredible skills and prowess. Five years later, the “Drive for Design” competition is still going strong.

Earlier this month, FCA announced the Fifth Annual “Drive for Design” contest.

The prompt for the 2017 “Drive for Design” competition will be involve participants designing a Dodge vehicle that would theoretically be released 30 years in the future. Young designers will have to apply what they know about current automotive trends in order to predict what a vehicle that is still 30 years off in the future would look like.

The competition is open to any U.S. high school student currently between the 10th and 12th grade. The contest was launched on February 7, and entries are due no later than April 28.

The winners of the “Drive for Design” competition will be announced on June 16 during the EyesOn Design Vision Honored Black Tie and Silent Auction. EyesOn Design, a nonprofit organization based out of Detroit, will serve as a partner for the competition, as will Lawrence Technological University, a private university located in Southfield, Michigan.

The “Drive for Design” competition has resulted in some pretty stunning vehicle concepts in the past. Ben Treinen of Cincinnati, Ohio took home the first place prize for the 2016 “Drive for Design” challenge, which had students design a 2025 Dodge SRT Hellcat.

“Five years ago, we created Drive for Design to connect with young art students and make them aware of careers in automotive design,” says Mark Trostle, Head of Performance for Passenger Car and Utility Vehicle Design at FCA – North America. “This year, we are joined by Lawrence Technological University and EyesOn Design, both locally based organizations that share our passion to excite, educate and inspire students.”
