Fiat Chrysler Automobile’s 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine is getting a 14.9% power boost

With the new model year comes multiple changes for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. One of the biggest changes, though, is with one of the company’s most popular engine options. The 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine is getting a big boost in power—something that even the pickiest consumer will love.

The all-new Pentastar engine will deliver more than 14.9% more torque than before, while offering a 6% improvement in fuel efficiency. This increase in torque occurs at engine speeds below 3,000 rpm.

FCA is debuting the new powertrain option in the 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee. In this rough and tumble SUV, consumers will see 295 horsepower from the Pentastar, 5 more horsepower than the previous model.

The engine’s increase in power is thanks to a variety of enhancements, including a two-step variable valve lift (VVL), cooled exhaust-gas recirculation (EGR), and innovative weight-reduction strategies. It also features an upgraded Variable Valve Timing (VVT) system, which reduces oil demand.

While it has a variety of upgrades—and plenty of additional content—the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine still weighs in under the previous model’s weight, tipping the scales at 326 pounds. That’s four pounds less than last model year’s engine.
