On Wednesday of this week, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) and Habitat for Humanity joined forces to kick off a collaborative effort to build a house a house on Maryland Street in the Morningside Commons neighborhood on the east side of Detroit. The home is being constructed as part of Habitat for Humanity Detroit’s Leaders to ReBuild Detroit campaign.

The goal of this campaign is to serve 500 families through tasks such as new home construction, rehabilitation, critical home repair, blight remediation projects, and weatherization. Already, Habitat has served more than 250 families since the effort launched back in 2012.

“It’s always a good day when we raise a new set of walls!” exclaimed Vincent Tilford, Habitat Detroit’s executive director, at the launch celebration. “We are so grateful for FCA and their partnership in our mission to build homes, communities and hope. Our vital work wouldn’t be possible without their support.”

The house will be built over the next few months, with about 260 volunteers from FCA taking part over around 1,800 hours of labor, all on the company’s time.

“As a company, we are committed to making service to others part of our daily mission, so the FCA Foundation is thrilled to partner with Habitat Detroit to help another family realize their dream of homeownership,” Jody Trapasso, Senior Vice President of External Affairs for FCA  North America, remarked. “Wherever possible, we put volunteer hours behind our Foundation grants to better build strong, sustainable communities.”
