‘Tis the season to be jolly, but ‘tis also the season to give back to those less fortunate. This time of year, people around the world gather to donate their time and money to charities designed to help make the holidays that bit jollier for people who might be struggling. In Windsor-Essex County, Canada, a local charity called Sparky’s Toy Drive collects gifts for less fortunate kids, and for the 14th year in a row, FCA’s Windsor Assembly Plant has supported the charity with approximately $35,000 worth of toys.

FCA’s giving campaign is the largest of its kind in the Windsor-Essex County. This year, employees helped fill several Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Pacifica minivans to overflowing with toys that will be donated to 3,000 children from approximately 1,100 families in the Windsor area. The convoy of toy-filled minivans was led to Sparky’s Toy Drive’s collection centre by Windsor Fire and Rescue Services, who ensured that the toys got there safely and in one piece. The Toy Drive was started by and is run by Windsor Fire and Rescue Services, who want everyone in the community to enjoy Christmas—even those without the money to buy their children gifts.

“The generosity of the employees at FCA Windsor Assembly Plant never ceases to amaze Sparky’s Toy Drive. They are our largest contributor every year and assist us in supplying gifts for thousands of area children on Christmas,” explained Sean Costello, Sparky’s Toy Drive Coordinator, Windsor Fire and Rescue Services. “It is our belief that no child should go without at Christmas and we are thrilled that FCA employees echo these sentiments. On behalf of the Windsor Fire and Rescue Services, as well as the Windsor Professional Firefighters Association, we would like to extend our extreme gratitude to the employees of FCA for their continued support of this worthwhile cause.”

“Windsor Assembly Plant employees continue to excel, not only in our manufacturing operations, but also in giving back to the Windsor/Essex community. Every year, I am humbled by the generous spirit of each employee as they donate their time, effort and money to support local families in need,” said Michael Brieda, Plant Manager, FCA Windsor Assembly Plant. “The Windsor Fire and Rescue Services work extremely hard to ensure that all children are able to celebrate the holiday season to the fullest. We are thrilled to play a prominent role in Sparky’s Toy Drive and will continue to work with the organizers to sort and deliver the toys for the 14th consecutive year.”

Over 14 years of participation, the Windsor Assembly Plant has filled more than 60 minivans with toys values at around $350,000. These toys have been distributed to about 42,000 children in the area.

Although FCA’s minivans have already been delivered full of presents, there’s still time to give if you’re in the Windsor area. You can donate cash or unopened toys to any Windsor fire station until December 23rd. It’s a small gesture, but it can make a child’s Christmas an incredible one.
