Following Stellar February Sales, BMW Plans to Hire 8,000 New Employees
BMW is headed in the right direction, and the automaker’s sales results for 2014 proved that. After achieving its highest annual benchmark last year, BMW has set yet another sales record by reaching its highest February sales results ever: a combined total (including MINI) of 25,201–a 14.5% increase over February last year.
The most successful vehicles sales increases were for the X5 (42.5%), 6 Series (122.1%), and the MINI lineup (51.3%).
Taking these as indications of continued demand and necessary expansion, BMW is growing its capacity. To keep up with the increase demand for the brand’s products, BMW is planning on hiring 8,000 new employees globally by the end of 2015, according to kfz-betried.
BMW Workforce Growing by 8,000 in 2015
In an interview with the German magazine, BMW Board Member Milagros Caiña-Andree explained the company’s plan to hire 5,000 additional employees in German manufacturing plants and 3,000 skilled workers in its international production network. That’s roughly a 7% increase to BMW’s global workforce.
BMW is especially seeking out workers who are skilled at software engineering (for in-car electronics and programming machinery) and experts in fuel-efficient or alternative propulsion technologies. Because of the cutting-edge innovations being pursued by BMW, it’s important for the automaker to develop, program, and assemble its own equipment in-house using skilled workers.
However, “skilled workers” doesn’t just mean male employees, as BMW intends to promote gender diversity in the workplace. “We want to get significantly more women in the company,” said Caiña-Andree. “As a highly technical company, that is not easy. But the number of women who opt for a career in technology continues to grow.”
BMW added nearly the same amount of employees to its workforce last year.
