2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata Global Cup Race Car Inspiration for Fiat 124 Spider

The 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata Global Cup Race Car will be part of the inspiration for the Fiat 124 Spider

Fiat is looking to shake things up and spin a new web of sorts. The Italian carmaker recently announced that it is offering a sexy, small sports car, which is named the Fiat 124 Spider, at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November.

The Spider is combining the brand’s signature European flair with Mazda’s fourth-generation MX-5 Miata Japanese design. Though the 124’s design will be more Italian-inspired, the roadster will still be made in Hiroshima, Japan, where the MX-5 Miata is built, too.

Currently, Fiat’s most popular car is the 500, which continually tops the charts in sales. The Italian carmaker is hoping the new model could provide even more sales for the company in the American market, expanding the lineup into a brand-new, competitive segment.

This isn’t the first time the 124 Spider has been offered in the United States. A similar sports car was sold in the American market during the 1960s, but was discontinued due to lack of interest. Now that Fiat’s reputation in the United States is focused on reliable, European cars, it’s likely the 124 Spider will be even more popular.

The Spider will arrive on the U.S. sometime next year, giving American consumers the perfect roadster for adventures.
